Why Families Love Private Circles

FAQ
What is a Private First Moon Circle?
A Private First Moon Circle is an intimate, celebratory, and educational gathering designed to prepare girls for their first period in a positive and empowering way. It blends first period education, menstrual wellness, and coming-of-age celebration to help girls feel informed, confident, and proud as they grow.
For more information on First Moon Circles, visit About First Moon Circles.
Who are Private First Moon Circles for?
These circles are perfect for families, homeschool groups, Girl Scout troops, sports teams, schools, or groups of friends who want a private, customized experience. They’re designed for girls typically aged 8–14, before or just after their first period (also called "menarche" or their "first moon.")
How is a Private Circle different from a regular First Moon Circle?
Private Circles are created just for your group, meaning the setting, date, and attendees are closed to the public and cater instead to your unique group. It’s an intimate way to share this milestone with the people who matter most.
What happens during a Private First Moon Circle?
Each Circle includes age-appropriate first period education, guided discussions, creative activities, and gentle celebration rituals. We talk about how the menstrual cycle works, how to care for your body, and how to embrace this new stage of life with confidence and pride. Every gathering ends with a simple ceremony to celebrate this beautiful transition.
For more, visit What to Expect.
Where can a Private First Moon Circle be held?
Anywhere that feels safe and comfortable! I can host your Circle in your home, a classroom, community space, retreat center, or outdoor venue. I’m based in Utah County but travel throughout Utah and surrounding states. And I’m happy to go farther for groups outside the region.
Do you travel outside Utah?
Yes! I regularly travel throughout Utah and neighboring states, and I’m happy to discuss traveling farther for schools, organizations, or special groups. Travel fees vary based on distance and accommodations, but I do my best to make it easy and accessible.
How does the traveling fee work?
There is no traveling fee within Utah County or Salt Lake County.
Beyond those areas, the traveling fee is the standard IRS mileage reimbursement if I drive, and if I fly, the fee includes all travel costs.
The traveling fee can be paid at the First Moon Circle, split between attendees or covered by the organizer. If split between attendees, please communicate that clearly to all attendees.
How many people can attend?
Private Circles typically include 5–10 mother–daughter pairs, though I can adapt for smaller or larger groups. I like to keep these Circles small and intimate to prioritize each child's comfort and ability to ask questions.
What age is best to attend?
Most girls attend around ages 8–12, ideally before their first period so they feel confident and prepared. However, girls who have recently started menstruating are also welcome — the experience is just as meaningful for them! And a Circle can be filled with children of varying ages.
How long does a Circle last?
Private First Moon Circles last about 3.5 hours. They’re spaciously paced to allow time for learning, discussion, snacks, and celebration without feeling rushed.
Do you offer online or virtual Circles?
While the experience is most powerful in person, I occasionally offer virtual First Moon Circles for groups in other states or countries. Contact me if that’s something you’re interested in!
What if I need help filling my Circle?
If an organizer needs help filling spots, I can provide advertising materials and can also invite those on my waitlist. The organizer agrees to advertise locally if needed with my support. I want to make this as easy on you as possible but you also have more access to your local community than I do!
